Kalix löjrom (Caviar of Kalix) is the king of Swedish caviars. It is one of very few Swedish products with the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status, issued by the European Union. It is a prized delicacy which is served at special occasions such as nobel banquets, royal weddings and other celebrations.
It is also not a secret that Kalix löjrom is one of our absolute favourite Swedish products. It is widely known for its outstanding combination of texture, colour and taste. It is excellent to eat on its own but of course it is also a great idea to spice up everyday dishes with a pinch of this edible gold. Here are some of our favourite friends of the löjrom. These are super easy dishes to make and indulge in and the best part is that you don't need many ingredients at all to make them as the löjrom is always in focus.
Rårakor (potato pancakes) are quick to make but it is also a dish that we tend to forget about sometimes. Here’s us reminding you of this delicious little thing. First you need to clean and grate the potatoes. Add some salt and then make sure to get all the liquid out from the grated potatoes with the help of a towel. Then divide the grated potatoes into small pancakes that you fry for a few minutes on each side until they become golden brown. Serve them with some creme fraiche and then sparkle a bit of löjrom on top along with some red onion and a bit of dill if you want. It’s as simple as that but tastes absolutely delicious!
Snittar (small pieces of toast fried in butter) with löjrom is the perfect thing to serve as a snack for a party or if you just want to spice up your weekend dinner a bit. All you need to do is to find a good white bread. Just cut the bread into desired pieces, after which you fry them in butter so that they become beautifully golden brown. Then fry the onion in a bit of olive oil. Serve the toast, with the fried onions, some creme fraiche and a generous amount of löjrom on top.
Something that has gained a lot of popularity in the last few years is pizza with löjrom. We can't think of a fancier pizza! Why not try to make it yourself?

Mouth-watering and simple to make, löjrom nachos will make your Fredagsmys a little more golden.
Just place the chips (we recommend Lantchips) on a cutting board or on a plate. Peel and finely chop the red onion. Top the chips with crème fraiche, löjrom, red onion and dill sprigs. Voila! The perfect snack!
We keep talking about how much we love Kalix löjrom but the town it comes from is for most people an undiscovered gem. Magnificent nature, refreshing archipelago life, picturesque northern lights and unique opportunities for unforgettable adventures. Kalix has something to offer for everyone who wants to experience genuine quality of life.
The west coast and the islands around Stockholm in all their glory, but most people who have experienced the place where Kalixälven meets the sea would probably agree that this is where Sweden's most beautiful archipelago is located. Kalix is extremely beautiful and has a lot to offer, you can even spend the night in snow igloos!
