Jokkmokk is a small town in Lapland, Sweden, with just a bit over 2000 inhabitants. The Sami name of Jokkmokk (composed of the individual words jåhkå and måhkke) means "River's Curve" due to the meandering river that runs through it. Jokkmokk is a stunningly beautiful place and a natural meeting place for Sámi people from all over Lapland. 

Since 1605 the colourful Jokkmokk market has been celebrated annually, starting on the first Thursday in February. This heartwarming winter celebration features cultural activities and amazing culinary experiences right in the coldest midwinter weather. The market attracts tens of thousands of international visitors every year. You won’t be able to find these genuine food experiences anywhere else. Jokkmokk and Jokkmokk market really has the best of Sámi culture, with unique knowledge about the natural resources of the region: game meat, reindeer meat, berries, herbs and exclusive fish. Jokkmokk may be small but definitely worth a trip and it's just as beautiful in the winter as in the summer.
